In the automotive world, rally racing is the ultimate test of a driver's skill. Rally races usually occur on an off-road terrain, envolving bumpy terrain and dirt roads. This is one of the most difficult events to perform as a race car driver, and it is also the most damaging for the vehicle as the harsh terrain put tremendous stress on the car. As it is the hardest type of race to perform, where it is very easy for drivers to veer off track, or to lose control of their vehicles, rally racing is reserved for the thoughest of motorsport drivers.

The vehicles that perform rally races are also heavily modified in order to reduce weight and to improve aerodynamics, as the vehicles are almost always off balance, often airborn and fighting to retain traction. The vehicle alterations serve many purposes, not only to improve the performance during the race, but also to reinforce the structure of the vehicle to withstand the harsh beating it will receive during the race.
